We spend an average of 90,000 hours working in our lifetime. In other words, far too much time to be working at a job you hate. We’ll spend about a third of our lives working, and that’s why it’s so important to make sure your career is fulfilling.

In April of this year alone, 4 million people quit their jobs, according to NPR. We’re in the midst of what some are calling The Great Resignation.   • Ridicule – being belittled, insulted, condescended to
  • Sexual harassment – in the form of touching but also jokes and insults
  • Intimidation/bullying – being yelled at, threatened or victimized
  • Anything that interferes with your work performance

Sometimes, these actions can lead to lawsuits. And sometimes, you can just walk away and start a whole new career.

How to quit responsibly and start a new venture

A two-week notice is standard across most industries. And even though higher-level executives are often asked to leave immediately, proper etiquette dictates resigning with notice regardless. Quitting responsibly is a matter of common sense: don’t leave a scathing letter, steal a box of office supplies or swap out decaf for regular coffee in the break room. Don’t burn any bridges, because you never know whose path you’ll cross again. The Golden Rule is a good one to follow, because you always feel better if you take the high road anyway.

While we don’t subscribe to the old adage “If you do what you love, you’ll never work another day in your life,” we can assure you there’s something better out there.
